Finn Family Moomintroll

Finn Family Moomintroll
I was so excited to see this ad in today's Shelf Awareness newsletter! I first discovered the Moomins when I was a kid. The fantastic public library in the town where I spend my summers had the entire series. I buy the older editions when I see them in used bookstores, and even own a pin that a friend gave me in college! Hooray for Moomins!

Helpful Websites

There are a lot of really great websites out there for book lovers. I thought I would list a few of the ones I visit on a regular basis. Enjoy! I'd love know what sites others enjoy as well!

This site is great for finding both new books and older books that may be missing from your collection. Just list books you would be willing to trade and get credits for other books when you complete a transaction. I have found books that are out of print or otherwise hard to find, and have also gotten brand new books as well. I love it! It is especially nice for people who enjoy mysteries and romance, as there are a lot of titles listed in those categories. You can find me listed under SarahK.

Project Gutenberg is a collection of books, periodicals, and video that is out of copyright in the US and therefore can be distributed freely. You can search by author, subject, language etc, and the site is easy to navigate. In addition to classics by Dickens & Alcott, you can also find old readers from the 19th century, folklore from all over the world, crafts, and cookbooks! It is fun to explore and see what is there, as it is updated often. You can also volunteer to record books and help with digitizing.

Library Thing allows readers to catalog books they have read or want to read, find events in their local bookstores, see what others are reading, and read and write reviews. They also have book giveaways! I mostly use this site to remember what I have read and when, and to write the occasional book review.

Last, but not least, Goodreads! Like LibraryThing, Goodreads allows you to mark books as read, books you want to read, upcoming books, etc. There is a Facebook app for this site, so you can update there or on the Goodreads site and then see what your friends are reading. I find this site a bit easier to navigate than Library Thing, but think they are both worth checking out. You can find me there under FrauK. Please feel free to add me as a friend--I'd love to know what others are interested in reading!

Philip Reeve Explores the Gray Area

New Blog

Hello! I started a new blog for my book reviews, as my old blog was getting too cat-heavy! Here I will be reviewing books both old and new, as well as discussing issues about librarianship, publishing, and the world of words in general! I am currently listening to Catherine Fisher's new book, Incarceron, and have just received a review copy of the first book in the Benjamin Pratt & the Keepers of the School series by Andrew Clement, so I will post my impressions of both books soon.
